“Don’t worry about the wicked or envy those who do wrong. For like grass, they soon fade away. Like spring flowers, they soon wither. Trust in the LORD and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the LORD . Trust him, and he will help you. He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn, and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun. Be still in the presence of the LORD, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes. Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper— it only leads to harm. For the wicked will be destroyed, but those who trust in the LORD will possess the land. Soon the wicked will disappear. Though you look for them, they will be gone. The lowly will possess the land and will live in peace and prosperity.” Psalm 37:1-11
It’s so easy to get distracted and fixated on the schemes and perceived prosperity of the wicked. Especially this day and age when information is at our fingertips and the culture celebrates and supports the wicked. It can be overwhelming, seeing how exalted the depravity of the world has become.
If we aren’t careful, we will start fretting and worrying about the injustice and wickedness, to the exclusion of our faith. But it never stops there…it inevitably leads to anger, rage and harm because we’ve allowed our hearts to drift from trusting the Lord with everything, even the injustice. Soon we want to take matters into our own hands, forfeiting our own innocence in the process. It’s just not worth it.
We have to commit everything to Him. Everything. The good, the bad, the unjust, the unfair. We have to trust His sovereignty and that not one wicked act will go unpunished. His promises stand. The wicked will soon disappear but for the righteous, those who have kept their trust in Him, we will live in peace and prosperity. Hold fast in your faith and turn from anger. Turn to His love and faithfulness. It WILL get us through!!
